VLADIMIR

Vladimir is one of the oldest Russian cities. It’s located in the heart of the historic Vladimir region 180 kilometers from Moscow on the bank of the Klyazma River. The official population of Vladimir is about 40000 people. The city was founded in either 990.From 1157 to the middle 1300s, it was the capital of ancient Russ. Vladimir is one of the major members of the Golden Ring of communities which have played a significant role in Russian history.

Among many other attractions, the City boasts three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are the Golden Gates, Vladimir’s unofficial symbol, and the Assumption and St. Demetrius Cathedrals.

Cathedral Square  is one of the most historically important Russian Orthodox Churches. In the 14th century, the cathedral was the seat of the Metropolitan, the leader of the Russian Church. Later, the same  project was utilized for the cathedral of the Assumption in Moscow Kremlin.

Golden Gate is the entrance to the walled city, the gate was built in 1158-64. At that time, the city was circled by a rampart with five stone gates. The Golden Gate is the only remaining part of it and only monument of ancient fortifications in Russia.

Also Vladimir is major industrial center in Central Russia. The major industrial parts are food industry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy.
