YAROSLAVL

Foundation of the town by the prince Yaroslav the Wise in 1010 on the place, where the prince had killed the bear. You can see this bear on the emblem of the town. Yaroslavl is the first Russian city on the Volga River referred to in the record. The modern city arose in the place where the Volga – the main artery of the Volga trade route – river Kotorosl. Home pearl of Yaroslavl is Historical and Architectural Museum on the territory of the Svyato Preobrazhenskiy Monastery. Built in the 12th century, it is one of the sixteen largest monasteries. In the 16th century the state treasury was transferred here, and in 1612 it became the headquarters of Minin and Pozharsky.

Yaroslavl Kremlin is surrounded by a wall and is located in the city center. Stunning impression has Volga embankment, perhaps the most beautiful of all the Volga embankments in different cities of Russia. One of the pavilions which were founded 1823 survived till nowadays. A place where the river Kotorosl flows into the Volga gives you feeling of freedom.
