Since the beginning of the 20th century, Dombay has been attracting thousands of climbers from all over the world. Over time, the area became more and more gentrified and developed high-quality tourist facilities. Today, you will find here a huge touristic complex and numerous ski trails which are so popular both among Russians and foreigners.
The prestigious resort village of Dombay in Karachay-Cherkess Republic is located within the Teberda Nature Reserve (which covers 85 hectares) – at an altitude of 1650 meters above sea level. The locals affectionately call it the “Pearl of Caucasus”, and rightly so! By the way, the name of the resort – Dombay – means bison in the local language. These noble animals have been living here over the centuries, and today they feel right at home in the Teberda Reserve.
The Elbrus area boasts, of course, the highest peak of the Caucasus Mountains, located near the Georgian border in Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkess Republic. This tour will give you the unique chance to see all this beauty with your proper eyes, and – what is the most exciting – to rise to a height of 4050 meters!

Meeting at the airport of Mineralnye Vody. Transfer to the mountain village of Dombay. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world. It has a wonderful climate which forms the basis for a ski resort that is surrounded by mountains on all its sides. Dombay is a unique place for recreation as it is located in a mountain valley at the foot of the northern slope at the Main Ridge of the Greater Caucasus. Dombay has been a center for tourism and mountaineering in the Caucasus mountain region since many years. Visit to the Alans temple.
Trekking to the Sufrudzhinsky Waterfalls (elevation 500 meters, 6-7 hours along the gorge). The way to waterfalls passes along the deep-flowing river of the same name. You will be amazed by the power and beauty of the waterfalls. Lunch. Free time.
Hiking to Baduk Lakes (elevation 600 meters, 5-6 hours). Transfer to the start of the route. You will start with the crossing of the Teberda River over a magnificent suspension bridge. The first lake is the smallest one. We follow a path and, having overcome stone scree, we will go to the second lake, then to the third (and the largest) one. After a long climb, you may want to swim in cool and refreshing water. Lunch. Free time.
Transfer to Kislovodsk (5 hours). Walking tour around the Kislovodsk Park. Walk along the lower park to the cable car station. Climb by cable car to the upper park. Hike to the Maloe Sedlo Mountain (1325 m). From the top of Maloe Sedlo, you can admire the Mount Elbrus. Lunch.
Transfer to the village of Terskol (6 hours). On the way, you will visit the Chegem (or Chegemskie) waterfalls. Chegem waterfalls serve as the calling card of the tourist-recreational complex of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic. The Chegemskoe Gorge (Su-Auzu — «water throat») is a rare beauty. The river Chegem’s noisy streams of water descend on the right bank of the cliffs. Illuminated by sun (by 10-11 a.m.), waterfalls form a colorful rainbow.
Hiking to the observation post (3000 m) through the waterfall Devichi Kosy (2800 m). The way starts in the Terskol village. On the way, you can watch the landscape change as we go up. The path begins in the mountain forest belt, then you will rise higher to the subalpine, or mountain meadow. Another attraction of this route is basalt “pencils”, which come to the surface and can even be touched. The route leads you to the waterfall Lunch box. Free time.
Breakfast. Transfer to the Gorge Irikchat (4-6 hours on the way). The valley of the Irik River is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Elbrus region. The river originates in the glacier of the same name and flows into the Baksan River near the village of Elbrus. The valley is located between the south-eastern and eastern spurs of Elbrus. Its level is 500 m higher than the Baksan Valley. Before flowing into the Baksan River flows into a deep canyon, covered with a pine forest. Lunch. Free time.
Breakfast. Transfer to Azau Meadow. Transfer by cable car to the station Gara-Bashi (3750m.). Between the stations of Mir and Krugozor walk to the German dugouts remaining from World War II (1 km, 40 min). Walk to the Shelter 11 (4050 m) or higher. Probably you will need special equipment for your trip, that can always be rented on the web site. Lunch. This is a serious height, which requires the utmost attention and strict adherence to all guide’s instructions. Climbing takes 4-5 hours.
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport of Mineralnye Vody (3.5 hours).
