This picturesque ski resort is a calling card of Mount Elbrus which you should absolutely see! Not afraid to visit a place bearing a creepy name Dargavs (“Dargavs” is native for “Dead City”)? Itinerary

Day 1Makhachkala

Meeting with a company representative at the railway station / airport of Makhachkala (Dagestan). City tour of Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, which means “the country of mountains” in local language. The city is located on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Depart for Derbent – one of the oldest cities of Russia. You will see a picturesque view of the mountain Pushkin-Tau.

Day 2Derbent

City tour of Derbent (Dagestan). You will visit the citadel Naryn-Kala (2500 years old), which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Day 3Sulak Canyon

Depart to Grozny. Today you will explore beautiful and unique Republic of Dagestan. First stop is the Grand Sulak Canyon. The Sulak River drains most of the mountainous interior of Dagestan northeast and flows into the Caspian Sea. Our second stop is the Chirkeisk Hydro Power Plant (also known as Chirkey Dam) on the Sulak River. This power station has the second highest dam in Russia (232.5 meters). In the evening, city tour of Grozny – the capital of the Chechen Republic. You will see that the city has changed a lot since the end of the second Chechen War – now it is absolutely safe and peaceful. Visit to the “Heart of Chechnya” (the largest mosque in Russia and Europe).

Day 4Mountainous Ingushetia*

Transfer to Ingushetia via the Assine gorge. The real pearl of Ingushetia is the Dzheirakh gorge. There are 92 landmarks, including famous Ingush Guard Towers, in this area. Some structures date back to the 2nd century BC. You will visit the Egikal Tower Complex.

Day 5Trekking in Mountainous Ingushetia

Breakfast. You’ll leave your baggage in the hotel storage. Ascent to the Mount Stolovaya. Depending on the age of the tourists, the ascent takes about 3.5-4.5 hours.

Day 6Dargavs*

We are going for the whole day to Dargavs – the “Dead city”, the biggest necropolis in the Caucasus (Republic of North Ossetia). Excavations show that Alans were the first to settle down in the Dargavs gorge in the 8th century. Transfer to Vladikavkaz.

Day 7Vladikavkaz – Elbrus

Transfer to Elbrus region – without a guide (about 4,5 h on the way). Arrival at the resort. Departure for a hiking in the Terskol gorge**, which is located between two spurs of Elbrus: the South East spur and the Eastern spur of the Tegenekli range. Additional services – the visit of a sauna.

Day 8Elbrus

Arrival to the Azau Meadow (Kabardino-Balkar Republic), where you will start your ascent on the slopes of the great dormant volcano by the cable cars. You will go up to the GaraBashi station (3750 m) ***. The views from here are really fascinating. If the weather is good, you will see the snowy mountains, stretching for 300 miles.

Day 9Pyatigorsk – Kislovodsk

Transfer to Pyatigorsk (about 3 hours), Stavropol Krai. City tour. You’ll see a small underground Lake Proval on the southern slope of the Mount Mashuk, visit the Tsvetnik Park, enjoy the view from the “Aeolian harp” observation point and taste the healing mineral water – Narzan. Transfer to the “capital” of the Caucasian mineral waters – the city of Kislovodsk. Evening walking excursion around the Kislovodsk Park – the second largest park in Europe (1000 hectares), which has over 250 species of trees.

Day 10Hot springs of Dzhily-su

Breakfast at the hotel. Early start to the northern slope of Elbrus, famous for its hot mineral springs Dzhily-su (Karachay-Cherkess Republic), healing the diseases. You can swim in the stone baths which are situated directly under the open sky. Picnic in the open air. Special off-road vehicles will be used during this trip. Light trekking to the waterfalls Emir and Sultan. Return to Kislovodsk.

Day 11Dombay

Transfer to Dombay (3-3.5 hours), Karachay-Cherkess Republic. Excursion to the Shumka waterfall. It is located on the territory of the Teberda reserve at an altitude of 1523 meters above sea level. Way to the waterfall is not difficult. The height of the waterfall is about 13 meters – the noise of a powerful stream can be heard from afar. Short walking to the so-called Devil’s mill – a whirlpool formed by water that has forced its way high in the rocks. The way goes to the Amanauz gorge, which meanders along the river of the same name – one of the major rivers of the Dombay glade.

Day 12Сombined tour to Alibek gorge*

Today you will enjoy walking trip along with jeep-safary to the alpine camp Alibek, situated in the most famous gorge of the area. The road lies at the left bank of the Alibek River. The first stop is mountaineers’ cemetery, where the courageous conquerors of Dombay mountains rest. We will leave the car at the camp and walk to the river. You will see the beautiful Alibek waterfall, walk at the edge of Alibek glacier and come at the shore of Tur Lake, located at a height of 2200 m above sea level.

Day 13Guzeripl

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the Republic of Adygea (about 5.5 hours) to the Guzeripl settlement, which is located at the foot of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range at a height of 670 m. Lunchbox on the way. Upon the road you will see a waterfall. Walking excursion to the Lago-Naki plateau. The main feature of this plateau is that it is situated in several climate zones. Short walk around broadleaf forest, after which we’ll go up to alpine meadows.

Day 14Sochi

Transfer to Sochi, Krasnodar Krai. Evening city tour, which includes the seafront promenade, walking around the historic part of the city, and visiting the watchtower on the mountain Big Akhun, overviewing the city.

Day 15Sochi

Our trip, full of vivid impressions, comes to an end on the Black Sea coast – the most popular travel destination for summer vacation. Transfer to the airport of Adler (without a guide).

* Attention! The territory lies in a border zone, only citizens of the Russian Federation are allowed to pass there with no restrictions. For foreign citizens, including the CIS countries, it is necessary to get the border pass – it takes about 40 days to prepare the documents.
