Tour Details

During this trip, you will explore the real pearls of the North Caucasus region of Russia…

The spa city of Kislovodsk is famous for its unique mineral springs. The city took its name due to the specific taste of the local water (“kislye vody” literally means “acidic waters”). Founded by the order of Tsar Alexander I of Russia, the city became a favorite vacation spot of many outstanding people: artists, writers, dancers… such as Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Anton Chekhov, great ballerina Anna Pavlova and others.

Only 70 kilometers divide Kislovodsk from Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain of European continent. Actually, it’s not a mountain – Elbrus is an inactive volcano which attracts thousand fearless climbers from all over the world. During the entire year, Elbrus is covered with snow, and its magnificent peaks can be observed from a distance of 15,554 feet (4,741 meters)! That makes it the 10th most prominent mountain in the world.

Azau Meadow is the highest inhabited point of Elbrus region. Which is curious, because the name “Azau”, according to one version, is translated as “the place where no people live”. Today Azau Meadow is a popular ski resort which boasts not only the developed tourism infrastructure, but also its incredible views and gorgeous landscapes. You will have a chance to admire all this beauty from a cable car!

Meanwhile, we are moving to the shores of the Black Sea… Sochi and the nearby ski resort of Rosa Khutor in Krasnaya Polyana will be our final destinations. Are you ready for the journey?

Itinerary

Day 1Mineralnye Vody – Kislovodsk

Morning flight from Moscow or St. Petersburg to Mineralnye Vody (which means “Mineral waters” in Russian) – a city and thermal station in Stavropol Krai. Arrival at the Mineralnye Vody Airport. Transfer to the Grand-Hotel 4* in Kislovodsk. Accommodation. Lunch. Excursion to the Kislovodsk Park – one of the largest parks in Europe, which covers 1000 hectares – and visit to SPA-center. The city is surrounded by mountains that serve as natural barriers against the wind. Kislovodsk has 300 days of sunshine a year. It was a favorite vacation spot for poets Alexander Pushkin and Mikhail Lermontov, writers Anton Chekhov and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and Russian prima ballerina Anna Pavlova. Here, you will have an opportunity to taste 3 different types of Caucasian mineral water. Dinner.

Day 2Kislovodsk – Pyatigorsk – Kislovodsk

Breakfast. Excursion to the historical center of the city of Pyatigorsk. The region has been developed due to the Emperor Alexander I, who ordered the construction of the thermal station in 1803. Pyatigorsk has witnessed many historical events and notable personalities such as Tolstoy and Pushkin. During the excursion, you will see the works of the Swiss architects – Giuseppe and Giovanni Bernardazzi – who have implemented the city project and literally built it from scratch. You will enjoy walking in the park “Tsvetnik” (which means “Flower Garden” in Russian), admire the beautiful view of Elbrus from the observation platform “Aeolian Harp” and see the famous underground lake. Weather permitting, we suggest you take a funicular to the top of Mount Mashuk to enjoy a gorgeous landscape of the city. Lunch at the local restaurant.

We offer you to choose between the following options:

* Excursion dedicated to Mikhail Lermontov – a Russian Romantic writer and poet, sometimes called “the poet of the Caucasus”. You will visit the places that have witnessed his life and death, including his home, which has not changed since the nineteenth century.

* Excursion to the fur factory of Pyatigorsk, which has been producing lambskin coats for more than 30 years and occupies one of the best places among Russian fur producers.

Return to Kislovodsk. Dinner in the local restaurant.

Day 3Kislovodsk – Mount Elbrus

Breakfast. Check-out from the hotel. The second part of our program starts with the trip to the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. On the way, you can stop to enjoy a natural monument – the “Mount-Ring”. However, our main destination is the unique natural phenomenon – the “Honey Waterfalls” – with an impressive view of the majestic mountains and waterfalls of different heights. After you will have time to take a rest and admire the landscape, while enjoying the local gastronomic specialties.

Visit to the Tea House – where you’ll taste various local herbal teas and homemade jams (for example, made of pine cones, mint, guava and sea buckthorn). Lunch with local dishes. Then we will go to the Mount Elbrus (5462 m) – its snowy summit will fascinate you absolutely. This region is rich in forests, picturesque landscapes, clean air, clear rivers and lakes. The sleeping volcano has two summits – the east (5621 meters) and the west (5642 meters). Dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 4Azau

Breakfast. Transfer to the village of Azau. We will take a funicular to the Azau station (3500-3800 meters). The guide will tell you the legends about Elbrus and allow you to enjoy the view of the Caucasus mountain range. Transfer to the hotel. Lunch. Journey to the mineral springs (3 sources of mineral water, rich in carbon, sodium and calcium). Metallic oxides dissolved in water give yellow and orange colors to the sources. Walk along the Baksan River.*

* Attention! Not recommended for persons suffering from cardiovascular diseases.

Day 5Chegem – Mineralnye Vody

Breakfast. For those who wish, it will be possible to climb the top of the mountain Chegem (3772 meters) to enjoy again a fantastic view of the Caucasus mountain range. Lunch.
