This “country of mountains” will reveal its treasures to you: unique fortresses and watchtowers guarding centuries-old legends. You will have the chance to savor the famous Dagestani khinkal and succulent dolma, whose taste you will remember forever. Stroll through the streets of Derbent, the oldest city in Russia, and feel the breath of its 5,000-year history, then relax on the sandy beaches of the Caspian Sea. Enjoy the famous Caucasian hospitality and the warmth of the local people. Dagestan is an unforgettable journey where every corner reveals a new facet of nature, history, and culture.

Itinerary

Day 1MOSCOW - MAKHACHKALA

Transfer to airport with guide for the flight to Makhachkala (flight ticket is not included, duration of the flight 3 hrs).

Arrival to Makhachkala city. Meeting with tourists at the airport. City tour of the capital of Dagestan Makhachkala. Lunch.  We visit the central Juma Mosque, the Takho-Godi Museum (where we will see a collection of cold steel and firearms, ethnographic collection, jewelry collection), Rodopsky Boulevard and the observation deck on Tarki-Tau Mountain. The city was founded in 1844 as Petrovsky fortification. The name was due to the fact that, according to legend, during During the Persian campaign in 1722, Peter I’s army camp was located on this site. Dagestan has been part of the Russian Federation since April 1918. Transfer to hotel, check-in.

Day 2Sulak Canyon + Sarykum dune

Breakfast. The business card of Dagestan is the Sulak Canyon.  Chirkeyskoye reservoir, boating on the reservoir.

The reservoir formed on the Sulak River for the construction of the largest hydroelectric power station.  It is the deepest canyon in Europe and one of the deepest canyons in the world. It is located in the valley of the Sulak River. Chirkeyskoye reservoir, boat tour on the reservoir.

The reservoir formed on the Sulak River for the construction of the largest hydroelectric power station. Lunch at the trout farming. After we will see the Nokyo complex, which unites three caves. One is located on the left bank of the Sulak River and two on the right. The total length of the labyrinths is several hundred meters. There are viewing platforms on both sides of the bridge where you can take a photo as a souvenir.

We will see the sand dune of Sary-Kum. It is a majestic sandy mountain with a total area of 600 hectares and a height of 262 meters. Transfer to hotel.

Day 3MOUNTAINS

Breakfast. Mountain tour for nature lovers-Hunzakh and Matlas. We will go through the Gimrinsky road tunnel, the longest road tunnel in Russia and the CIS (5,182 meters). It is located on the Makhachkala—Derbent section of the federal highway P217 Kavkaz. The tunnel passes under the Gimrinsky ridge, at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level. Irganai reservoir. Stone bowl – the labyrinths of the gorge, similar to huge and cold rooms, stretch for a hundred meters in length and close overhead at the same height. The village of Khunzakh in Dagestan is one of the oldest settlements in the Caucasus and the former capital of the Avar Khanate. Scientists claim that Khunzakh is almost two and a half thousand years old. Lunch (traditional Dagestan cusine). The Khunzakh plateau is a huge plateau with an area of more than 250 km2.  We will find ourselves on the shore of a huge canyon, into which several waterfalls descend at once, scattering fine splashes in the air.

We will see the majestic Tsolotlinsky canyon, from which two waterfalls descend. One of them is Tobot, the business card of the district. For a supplement it is possible to take a horseback riding tour. Transfer to Derbent. Check-in at hotel.

Day 4DERBENT - MOSCOW

Breakfast. We will see The Soviet Project 903 Lun rocket-carrying ekranoplane is a unique exhibit that has no analogues in the whole world. Derbent city tour: one of the oldest “living” cities in the world and the southernmost city in Russia, will open the curtains of its distant past.

The citadel of Naryn-Kala. The tour will reveal the ancient history of the citadel, which has protected the city from the invasion of nomads for thousands of years. It was here that part of the famous “Silk Road” took place.  It is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visit the city market of Magaly region. Lunch. Visit the embankment. Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Moscow. Arrival to Moscow, meeting with the guide at the airport, transfer to hotel, check-in.

Day 5MOSCOW

Breakfast. Check-out of the hotel and transfer to the airport with guide.
