Pskov — A Legendary City Where History Comes to Life

Friends, we’d like to tell you about one of Russia’s most atmospheric and ancient cities — Pskov. This is a place where ancient walls remember princes and battles, and the streets preserve the spirit of true Rus’! 🏰

Located just 300 km from St. Petersburg, Pskov is a unique city that’s easy to include in your trip!

📍 How to get there?

From St. Petersburg, it’s only 3 h by the comfortable high-speed train “Lastochka” or by bus.
We recommend visiting for at least 2 days to fully appreciate the beauty and richness of the region! The Pskov-Izborsk-Pechory route is especially great.

🏰 Pskov is famous for its Kremlin, Izborsk for its medieval fortress, and Pechory for the renowned Pskov-Pechory Monastery!

The Pskov region is actively developing various types of tourism:

  • gastronomic,
  • cultural,
  • religious,
  • rural tourism.

🌿 Rural tourism is becoming increasingly popular. We recommend trips where you can explore the history of the Pskov region, its landmarks, as well as visit apple orchards, learn about cheese-making, gingerbread baking, and even try your hand at weaving.
🌿 On such a tour, you can experience life as a real villager—working on a farm, picking up a shovel or rake, and enjoying the charms of rural labor.

What should you see in the Pskov region?

🔸 Pskov Kremlin (Krom) — The heart of the city, with mighty walls and the Trinity Cathedral. The view from the fortress walls is simply breathtaking!
🔸 Dovmont Town — A unique open-air archaeological museum.
🔸 Pogankin Chambers — An old merchant’s house with a rich collection of icons and weapons.
🔸 Izborsk Fortress — One of Russia’s oldest stone fortresses (14th century!).
🔸 Mikhailovskoye, Petrovskoye, Trigorskoye — Estates linked to the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.

🍽️ What to try?

Pskov-style pancakes — Thick, hearty, with various fillings.
Medovukha — A traditional honey-based drink brewed here for centuries.
Fish from Lake Peipus — Especially delicious dried or smoked.

📸 Best photo spots?

• By the Saint Olga’s Chapel on the banks of the Velikaya River.
• Snyatnaya Hill — The best panoramic view of the city.
• Inside the Pskov Kremlin — Where the atmosphere of the old town truly comes alive.

📍 Where to stay?

• Boutique Hotel “Pskov” 4* (city center, with a restaurant and conference hall)
• Hotel “Barcelona” 3*
• Hotel “Olginskaya” 3* (city center, on the banks of the Velikaya River)
• Old Estate Hotel & SPA 4*
Two 5-star hotels are set to open in Pskov this year.

💡 When to visit?

The best time is late spring (when everything is in bloom), summer (sunny and warm), early autumn (golden landscapes), or winter (a real, soft, snowy Russian winter).
Pskov is a city where the stones remember princes, the river reflects golden domes, and the air is filled with history.

It’s a city you’ll want to return to! 🏰
