Yesterday 34 years ago the largest manmade disaster occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The accident was the result of a flawed reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel. The resulting steam explosion and fires released at least 5% of the radioactive reactor core into the environment with the deposition of radioactive materials in many parts of Europe.
⠀ The interest to Chernobyl has increased due to the eponymous series released by HBO in 2019. As a result, the flow of tourists to Ukraine has increased by 5 times comparing to previous years. The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone has become one of the “must visit places” during ones stay in Ukraine.
⠀ The visitors have an opportunity to see an informative and documentary movie about Chernobyl. Upon arrival they receive an introductory briefing of the Exclusion Zone and then visit the main sights of this territory: its churches, streets, the memorial “To Those who Saved the World”, the station with its reactors from the permitted distance, the nearby town of Pripyat and other places.
⠀ The knowledge of the history of Chernobyl reduces the risk of its repeating.
